  1. Helen Beach,

Almost thirty years ago, I hired Quality Restorations to rebuild part of my chimney. The work was completed as promised, was reasonably priced and is still a sturdy/solid chimney. This year, right after the New Year, my furnace was turned off because of a defective chimney liner. I immediately contacted Doug. He asked me to send him photos of my chimney. Within two hours of my initial call he had provided me with a quote and scheduled the replacement for the following morning. Then, on the advice of my family, I decided to delay a day to investigate the cost of replacing the furnace instead. I asked Doug if I could put the replacement on hold until the next afternoon when I would let him know my final decision. About 4:30 pm the following day I phoned him to reschedule the installation I had put on hold – expecting it to be at least two days away. In less than 15 minutes he phoned me back to schedule noon the following day. As promised, the installer phoned ahead to confirm his arrival time. When the work was finished the area was left spotlessly clean and tidy. I couldn’t have been more pleased. Initially, when Doug quoted the work he gave me a bottom and maximum price. A cost above the bottom price would only be charged if there was a problem removing the old liner, but would not exceed the maximum quoted. True to his word, he charged me the lower price. Companies change over the years and often not for the better. When I made my phone call to Doug, all I could do was hope that their service was as good as it had been many years ago. I wasn’t disappointed. Doug was sensitive to my lack of house heat, patient when I put the work on hold and immediately responsive when I decided to resume the work. I found him to be honest and professional. The installer was courteous, professional, answered all my questions and cleaned up everything before leaving. They were a pleasure to do business with and I will be contacting them again. I highly recommend them to anyone.

  2. Jonathan Levy,

We took possession of our house in Mid-August and had about two weeks until our move date. During this time we needed to complete an interior renovation, including removal and construction of banister and handrail along stairs on main, second and third floors, painting and electrical work. Also, we needed to complete exterior work including tuck pointing, re-shingling, new eavestroughs and waterproofing along one side of the house. Quality restorations commenced work on the scheduled start date and worked continuously until the job was done, enabling us to move in on schedule. This was greatly appreciated. Workers were professional, courteous and made a concerted effort to clean the house upon completion of the work. When (minor) delays occurred, our project manager (or the company owner) always made efforts to advise of the delay in advance, clearly explain the reason, and provide advice on when work would be resumed. This too was appreciated. The quality of the work is great. Painting was very nicely done and the banister is great. Really tasteful and, most importantly, is very sturdy and safe. Happy with the electrical work as well. Best thing about this company…they gave us quotes and stuck to them. I’m certain that the amount of work that had to go into the banister was of far more value than initially quoted. The sub-trade carpenters really took pride in what they were doing, and had to get creative given a few obstacles that arose b/c of the way the walls in the house are structured. I suspect the value of the work was thousands more than quoted, but Quality stuck to their quote and did not charge us one penny more (or ever even give me any indication of the actual cost for that matter). Good for them! Very rare I’d say. Also, neither Doug nor his guys ever encouraged doing work unless they believed it necessary. This was very helpful in keeping costs down, particularly as they related to waterproofing. I made (several) enquiries about all types of additional work with respect to waterproofing, but was always advised to “hold off” to see whether the measures taken this year would alleviate the issue. Repeatedly told to “not bother spending the extra money if its not necessary.” Again, really appreciated the assistance in that regard. In fact, my neighbour made enquiries with Doug regarding waterproofing their own house, and were ready to spend the money, but when Doug took a look he told them it wasn’t necessary. Overall, Doug and his team operate with honesty and integrity, and they do great work!! Hire this company for your next home improvement project. I will definitely go back when the time comes to re-do our front porch and kitchen.

  3. Lori Davison,

We hired Quality Restorations Co. initially to do the stone work on a small addition we added to the rear of our home. The crew were excellent and the job was finished very quickly. We were extremely satisfied with the quality of the work. When it came time to do some other renovation work around the house, we did not hesitate to contact them again. The later project included finishing details in our basement (install laundry room cabinets, closet doors throughout basement, trim, level an office floor and other misc finishing details). We also had them completely renovate our living room. They installed bamboo hardwood floors, made custom built-in cabinets and built a beautiful fireplace mantel, in addition to all the drywall, painting and trim. The job was expanded when we noticed a very old leak in our masterbathroom. They took on this job (very last minute) and completely renovated the bathroom. The crew were working on every level of our home while we still lived there and they were very respectful and courteous the entire time. Doug was great to work with and was always very easy to reach. If we had any questions or concerns during the project he addressed them right away. Overall we were extremely satisfied with the work and would highly recommend them to anyone considering a home renovation.

  4. Mark Daitchman,

Basement Waterproofing, New patterned concrete walkways & stairs

We needed to do some updating on our Leaside home which is over 60 years old. I found Quality Restorations on this site and I’m glad I did. Doug Pearse was very helpful in explaining what was the work to be done and guiding us to making the right decisions so that we would be happy with the end result. Michael & Dominic who did most of the work were excellent and very patient with our constant questions – not to mention a few changes. Also, having received competitive quotes, I would say that Quality Restoration’s prices are reasonable. Excellent work – would definitely use this company again for any other significant project.

  5. Bob Legare,

The best company I’ve dealt with in Toronto!

Quality Restorations is real class act. We just moved to Toronto and bought an older house that needed a lot of work done on it. Doug Pearse the manager was a treat to deal with – knowledgeable, friendly and he just oozes experience and credibility. Doug has his own workers and also contracts with other companies. All of the workers that showed up were professional and did excellent work. And they cleaned up everything at the end of every day! A roofer came in behind the brick workers and said that the chimney they rebuilt was one of the best he’s seen. I know that Doug had a lot of other bigger jobs at the same time and yet he treated our little job like it was the only one he had going on.

I called them back a year after the chimney job to install a custom shower in the basement and they did a beautiful job of that as well.

I would highly recommend Quality Restorations and will definitely use them for just about anything I need doing in the future.

  6. Steve Young,

Brick cleaning , extensive brick restoration, chimney replacement, new eavestroughs, flat roof and drainage repair

We had a large job of full restoration on a 1908 Riverdale home (old, dirty brick, but made from the Toronto Brick Works). Three stages: brick cleaning, 2-3 weeks restoration and replacement work, eaves installment. All done professionally, on time and with exceptional results – 3 separate work teams. After the dusty brick work, they fully washed down our neighbour’s home and scrubbed their front porch – real class act here. Our brick work and home look beautiful thanks to Doug Pearse and his teams. One of his top experts (Mike) then came in and designed a really creative solution to a drainage problem on a flat back roof, designing a unique copper drainage solution. Costs were always fair and reasonable.

    • Rob Elliott,

Replacement of deteriorated brick and chimneys on 100 year old building

I asked for an estimate from Quality Restorations on removing the top of a crumbling facade on my building and replacing two old chimneys. Company owner Doug Pearse called me and we discussed what needed to be done. he clearly had experience and knowledge, and knew what the best course of action would be, and also, what red tape would need to be dealt with (my home is on a busy artery). Once I signed off on a detailed three page quote, Quality Restorations got the permits and dealt with disposal issues. Doug has been in business long enough that he knew the roofing company I had hired for the next phase of this job, and called them to make sure the masonry work on the building edge and the roof work would tie together properly. It took a few weeks to get the job done, due to Quality being in high demand and some delays with permits. Once the crew arrived, they were in and out of the job in two days. They cleaned the site up, hauled away the bricks, it was as if they had never been there, except the building looked great. I have dealt with many different types of contractors in the past six months, and the sort that I have grown to resent are the ones who expect the client to repeatedly explain the job to the workers, talk to the city, dispose of material – all things that the client has no experience with. Quality Restorations were in control from the moment I signed up with them. If I did have questions, I called the head office and they would page Doug for me right away.

  7. David Rutherford,

New roof on one of the original farmhouses in Leaside, plus all new eavestroughs and downspouts

    Word of Mouth Wins Again!

Our house is over 100 years old, and a neighbour called to ask if we had looked at the roof lately. It was deteriorating fast. A neighbour recommended Quality Restorations, saying they had done high quality work on his house at a reasonable price, on time and on budget. This was our experience too. In addition, the tradespeople were a pleasure to work with — utterly straightforward and professional, making very good recommendations on the various small questions that came up. All in all, a very positive experience.

  8. Asha Chakkalakal,

    Brick cleaning and Tuckpointing

    Excellent work!

We had the front of the house done in 1999 and were so pleased that there was no doubt that we’d have QR do the work when we decided six years later to do the rest of the house. We were very glad to see that the workers were the same ones who had done the previous job – always a good sign. All elements of the work were well done: removing the old vines, patching, matching the new mortar to the old, and protecting the plants. The work was all done in the promised time frame, with thorough clean-up. We liked also that they explained what they were doing and why, and identified the materials that they were using. We recommend QR most highly.
